One Aegir Standard or SSD Hosted Core comes with:

• 256 MB of database space.
• 2560 MB of disk space – iSCSI SAN or SSD.

What is the difference between Standard and SSD Core?

1There is only one significant difference (besides the price) – the SSD Core is 10x faster than Standard! It also comes with Percona 5.5 DB server. It is absolutely amazing, smokin’ fast!

How many Aegir Standard or SSD Cores do I need?

The answer is simple: you need enough Cores to match your expected usage of three easy to identify resources (and there is no limit on the number of sites you can host):

• The total size of all databases, counted as a disk space used by all db binary files.
• The total size of all files you uploaded or your system created.
• The total size of generated in/out web traffic.

You can easily monitor your usage of disk space and database space, as it is updated daily and displayed in the footer of your Aegir control panel, so it is a good idea to start with some absolute minimum you require and later purchase more cores, if needed, so you can easily add/cancel subscriptions for extra Cores, whenever you wish, at 2CO directly.

!Some platforms/distributions require four Aegir Standard or two Aegir SSD Cores at minimum, and will be included/allowed only if you purchase 4+ Standard or 2+ SSD Cores: Acquia Commons, OpenPublic, NodeStream, Videola and OpenScholar. Furthermore, CiviCRM 3.x and 4.x platforms are available only with 2+ SSD Hosted Cores. All other platforms are included/allowed even when you purchase just one Core (Standard or SSD): Drupal 7.x, Pressflow 6.x, Open Atrium, Managing News, Feature Server, Acquia, Ubercart, OpenChurch, ProsePoint, Conference, Open Enterprise and Drupal Commerce. All 6.x platforms have latest Pressflow core instead of vanilla Drupal.

!It is not possible to upgrade from Standard to SSD or downgrade from SSD to Standard, because SSD Core is hosted in a separate custom cloud. However you can always migrate your sites to/from SSD Core manually or by purchasing add-on migration/import service. The Aegir SSD Hosted Cores are currently available only in the New York and Singapore locations. Also, SSD Cores come with standard SSH/SFTP access, but without FTP/FTPS.

Note that fresh, minimal OS install is required on your server. We support Debian and Ubuntu, but Debian 6 Squeeze is recommended. By default Percona 5.5 database server will be installed. Installation of Solr/Tomcat is optional and requires 2 GB RAM at minimum. Otherwise 1 GB of RAM (or more) is required to install all available platforms.
